Golf: EKU pulls away on final day to win EKU Intercollegiate

RICHMOND, Ky. – After beginning the day with a four-shot lead over the field, the Eastern Kentucky University men’s golf team cruised to a 12-shot victory at the EKU Intercollegiate sponsored by Raising Cane’s on Sunday.

Two Colonels finished in the top-10. Noah Combs (205, -5) finished second, just one shot out of first. He shot par or better in all three rounds, including a final round 2-under 68. Jared Brown carded a final round 4-under 66 to finish with a 36-hole total of 209 (-1).

EKU (837) shot a final round 275 and finished the 36 holes at 3-under par. Longwood (849) was second. Dayton (853) placed third. Ball State (854) was fourth. The field included five other Ohio Valley Conference teams – Morehead State (6th), Southern Illinois Edwardsville (7th), Tennessee Tech (T10th), Austin Peay (12th) and Murray State (14th).

Will Sallee shot back-to-back rounds of 1-under to conclude the tournament and tied for 12th overall with a total of 212 (+2). Billy Basham (217) and Edvin Lindgren (217) tied for 35th at 7-over.

Erik Lindwall led a group of five Colonels playing as individuals. He turned in a final round 70 for a total of 211, one shot over par, and placed 11th overall.

The 16-team event was contested at the par-70, 6,623-yard University Club at Arlington.

The Colonels continue their fall schedule on Saturday at the three-day Northern Intercollegiate hosted by Northern Illinois University at Rich Harvest Farms Golf Club.
